How And When I Started Rocking My Curls

”I use to hate my curls”

_______________________

When I was younger I used to hate my curls. It was very frizzy and always super dry so I used to often flat iron my hair or put it in a high bun because I did not know how to handle it. My mother has much thinner hair than me and it’s more wavy than curly so she used to braid my hair until I was big enough to flatten my own hair. It took me 1 and a half hours to flat iron my hair which was a pain in the ass but I did it anyway because I thought it looked so good. So from the age of 13/14 to 17/18 I used to have my hair flat iron or a high bun and before that it was branded. I also remember how hard it was for me to find a hair salon that could cut my hair, most of them said they could not cut my ”kind of hair” or would like me to come back with my hair already flat haired. So I barely had a nice hair cut, I even used to cut my own hair sometimes and that didn’t go so well haha.

When I was about 17/18 I realized how much I had damaged my hair so I decided to make a change, but I did not know how. One day my aunt told me about a new afro salon she went to and how pleased she was, so I decided to book a time. There I received so many tips on how to take care of my curls also brought me some products that I got to try. One thing I have to mention is that before it was so difficult to get products for curly hair, I still find it difficult today to find good products here in Sweden. and stores like Åhlens and Kicks should have more curly hair brands. Do not get me wrong, It is getting better and we now have Moroccanoil and Redken (two of my favorites) but there is so much more! Anyway back to my story. When I came home and started using the products that I got, I thought that the day after, my curls would be looking so nice, but it didn’t , it took time and many days with a moisturizing hair mask in the hair. Also started watching a lot of youtube videos for more tips. Several months later, I finally began to understand my curls and what works best for me, I’m learning new things all the time about how I can take care of my hair, but today I LOVE MY CURLS! I have not flat iron my hair for almost 3 years (but have a bit of a desire to test it soon just to see how it looks now with flat iron hair) and I could not be more proud of myself, given that I use to falt iron my hair so often before. My best tip to all of you who have curly hair but don’t feel comfortable rocking your curls yet is to have patience and to test out what works best for your curls, we all have different hair types and the best way to know what works best for you and your curls is to try different products and different techniques. And you will start loving your curls soon too <3

NEW HAIRCUT

Thank you Creative Headz & Redken for taking care of my hair

As I mentioned on my last post I got a new haircut! I was just planning on going darker and cut some of my split ends, my goal was to get more volume. But while I was sitting there at the hairdresser she said that my ends looked pretty bad after me going a bit lighten last time, which was one of the reasons why my curls didn’t curl up as usual and didn’t give me the volume I wanted. So without really thinking how much needed to be cut I said ”Do it”.

She started off by cutting some of my hair of dry, and then colored it, I have to say that I absolutely love the color, it might just seem black (dark dark brown to be correct) but it actually has some purple/red toons on the parts were I got lighter last time (you can’t really se it on the pictures above, but sometimes you can hehe). After she colored my hair it was time to cut it, I didn’t really understand how short it was until she started to diffuse my hair, imagine me bent over with her diffusing my hair and then coming back up and realizing my hair was to my shoulders! I was in a shock haha, but I still liked it, just was not ready for it to be that short.

It’s been about 5 days now since I had my haircut and not only do I have way more volume I also noticed that I am not losing as much hair as I did before, I think my bad split ends made it difficult for me to comb which made me lose more hair then usual. I love my haircut more and more each day, even though I love my long hair (I don’t think I ever had my hair this short before, okay maybe once when I was 6 and had to cut my hair but that’s another story). What do you guys think? <3

Getting a haircut and some color at Creative Headz with Redken

Being a curly girl living in Stockholm I have always had a hard time finding a hair salon that understand my hair and how to cut it. Redken Kindly asked if I wanted to get a hair cut experience at creative headz as well as try there new pH-Bonder. They could not have asked me in a better time because I really needed a new look and I honestly didn’t know were to get a haircut. I am not going to lie I was so nervous, last time I got a hair cut It went so bad (read all about it HERE) and I just didn’t want to go though that again. but as soon as I got there and started talking with them I felt so much better. Not only did I get one of my best hair cut’s so far I also got some color (okay you can barely see the color), it is my first time coloring my hair and with Redken’s pH-Bonder my hair didn’t feel dry or damaged at all. You can see my resualt after I styled my hair myself HERE

If you have curly hair like me I really recommend you guys to go and check out creative headz, I am for sure going back there next time I need a hair cut!
